WEST UNION, W.Va. (WV News) — The Doddridge County Bulldogs moved a win away from a third consecutive Class A Region II, Section 2 title, blanking the South Harrison Hawks, 6-0.
Kenna Curran shut out the Hawks on three hits, striking out 11 and walking none.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Curran also doubled and drove in three runs at the plate for Doddridge County and Olivia See added a double among three hits, knocking in a run.
Riley Myers scored two runs for Doddridge County and A Thomas and Isabella Holtz each picked up an RBI.
Hope Woods singled twice and Alexis Shaw also added a base hit for South Harrison (12-14), which will return to action on Friday in an elimination game at 6 p.m.
Doddridge County (22-8) has two chances to win the section, starting on Saturday.
High School Baseball
BRIDGEPORT 16, Grafton 3 (F/5): The Tribe scored four, four, two and six runs in their four at-bats, racking up 14 hits.
Mark Biafore finished 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs and Dylan Duvall, Ben Bifano and Conner Blake drove in two each, with Biafore and Blake doubling.
Duvall scored three runs and Ashton Curry, Brody Pierce and Grant Lively all came in twice.
Both starter Zach Rohrig, in two innings, and reliever Lively, in three innings, struck out five batters.
Dustin Keener and Isaac Lough doubled and scored for Grafton.
On Thursday, Bridgeport (25-4) finishes its regular season at Robert C. Byrd at 5 p.m., while Grafton (7-13) hosts Elkins at 6 p.m.
NOTRE DAME 8, Wirt County 2: The Irish scored in five of six frames to win at Wild Things Park.
Preston Heslep struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings, allowing an earned run on five hits, and drove in two runs at the plate.
Dom Bombardiere was 2 for 2 with two runs and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Notre Dame (4-15) has won two in a row and heads to Preston on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
ELKINS 14, Lincoln 11: The Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish a rally from a 6-2 deficit and the Cougars lost despite scoring in every inning but the seventh.
Lincoln had seven doubles in the loss, two each for Dillon Shaw and Noah Sears.
Lincoln (7-16) visits Liberty on Thursday at 5 p.m.
