Editor’sNote: The following is a part of a series of profiles on candidates running in contested Harrison County primaries in the upcoming May 14 primary election.
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Ryan Kennedy is running for the role of Division 2 Harrison County circuit judge.
Biography:
“I am a native of Harrison County and the only military veteran running for circuit judge, having honorably served my country overseas. I am the only Division 2 candidate who has spent the majority of his career, about 20 years, representing abused and neglected children in court, which is, unfortunately, 80%+ of what circuit judges do now because of drugs. I’ve helped hundreds of children get out of bad situations. I’ve also spent years volunteering with the Juvenile Drug Court, taking children with drug problems and turning their lives around. I could help thousands of kids as a circuit judge.”
What are your qualifications for circuit judge of Harrison County?
“I am the only candidate in Division 2 with extensive experience representing abused and neglected children in court, which is 80%+ of what circuit judges do now, due to the drug epidemic. I’ve also practiced for many years in various types of civil and criminal cases, so I am very familiar with those types of matters as well. I’m the only Division 2 candidate who will be able to hit the ground running on Day One to help thousands of kids and, at the same time, handle everything else that comes before the court.”
What is your stance on bond?
“If I am elected circuit judge, it will be my job to take the law, as established by the Legislature and higher courts, and apply it in the most fair way possible to each particular party who comes before me under the facts of that particular case. I will take this approach to any bond issues related to bond which may come before me.”
